What may Ray Charles Foundation grant funds be used for?
a) Priority is given to requests that fund the delivery of an organization’s programs in order to advance the education needs of the underserved and underprivileged youth. The Foundation does consider requests from organizations that focus on the arts and cultural programs as long as the program promotes education and access for the underserved and disadvantaged.
b) Capital — such as buildings and improvements; furniture and equipment; and specialized inventory to advance the mission will be reviewed on a case by case basis but will not be a funding priority for the Foundation. Applicants for ‘capital’ funding will be requested to show if and how they have raised substantial amounts of their fundraising goals for ‘capital’ other than their request to the Foundation.
c) The Foundation will not make grants for ongoing operating expenses. Requests for payroll expenses are discouraged. Requests for ‘one-time events’ such as sponsoring a concert, a museum or other such field trips for students are not encouraged.
